San Jose Book Shop and Pet Pals AAT present a new free reading assistance program for children experiencing difficulty reading!
Gaining confidence in reading has never been more enjoyable - or cuddly. Children feel more comforable reading to a dog. Kids know that if they make a mistake, stumble over a word, or don't know the meaning of a word, the dog will neither laugh nor ciritcize. Therapy dogs listen to children completely unconditionally, leaving children to enjoy the experience of reading without fear. Therapy dogs can help children learn to read, and love to read. When children are relaxed, they are more willing to attempt more difficult reading levels, talk about the books they read, and absorb content more easily. All of the dogs in our program are the pets of the volunteer handlers. Petpals carefully screens each dog for temperament and health.

Michael Berry: Foot Magic
Foot Magic is a gentle form of foot therapy that utilizes movement, stretching, acupressure and massage to make your feet very, very happy. Generally, this work is taught as separate 3-4 hour modules spread out over several months. Here is a rare opportunity to get the four primary modules in one month, on four Monday evenings. The class includes body mechanics, self-care, contra-indications, and basic anatomy of the foot.
Michael Berry has studied over 40 forms of BodyMindSpirit healing and has been a practicioner and teacher for over 26 years. He offers intuitive healing and guidance at the Book Shop on most Tuesdays, and coordinates the Monday evening healing arts program.
